Opinions Please

It is a snowy weekend here and we are taking it easy. I did run a new circiut for the Microhood, and I got the handles and knobs installed. Here is a pic.

Now for the opinion poll. We are going to put the small slate tiles just above the counter as our backsplash, but we want to put tiles all the way up inbetween the cabinets. We are leaning toward the small tiles but we would like a few other opinions. Below are pics of each as well as a pic of them side by side. Please comment with your choice. Thanks.

It’s Here

So now all three of our appliances have their homes in the house. Since we had a small ice storm, Gregg got to work from home. And although he told me it was a 2 person job to hang the micro-hood somehow he got it done. The power isn’t hooked up to it yet but that’s for another day. But it looks like it belongs there. It was meant to be. It may have costed us a little more but I think for the extra price we got enough added features to make it worth while.

It’s in

Tonight is the night

We finally got it! It was should have taken until the end of the month according to our initial timeline. But on Saturday we swung by Sears, which we thought had one in. They told us they could get one by Monday at the warehouse but neither of us could get there by 5pm. Then they said they would get one in on Tuesday night to that location by we figured we should just pick it up at the other one. This worked out because Gregg’s parents had us pick up a couple of heaters at their house. Which since we don’t have the baseboard heat anymore (or ever apparently).

Kitchen Changes

I know we did it, but I still can’t believe the difference…

2009 is the year of the house. I hope we can keep the momentum.

Changes, changes, big changes

So our scheduled 2 hour delivery window from Sears on Saturday was from 9:15 to 11:15 am. They called us at 9:50 & said they would be there in a half hour.

Here they are
Almost here

It was so quick it was almost unbelievable. Our new ice box came in first. Of course that meant they took out the old one.

Look Ma no doors!
Oh, here are the doors.

Then came the stove

It took longer to take the plastic off the fridge then actually getting it in did. So after that we tried to get our delivery date of our mirco-hood moved up, we then got back to putting in the cabinets. So instead of having to wait until the end of the month, we will be picking it up on Tuesday night. While putting the upper cabinets up the power went out. So we got a bunch of candles together & lit them. Then decided to continued working by them anyway. Good thing the power was only out for about a half hour.

With doors on it actually starts looking really good.

Then we put the bottoms in & then wah-la it’s almost like a real kitchen. And with a little cheap Ikea countertop it’s practically done. We are just needing to put the hardware on. And we are trying to decide on a back splash & maybe a fake floor to get us by until we get a real one. My secret ballot vote is for the small tile & the dark tile on the floor. You can kind of see the small tile in the first picture below.

It’s an Ikea World

We finally decided on the medium wood look for our kitchen. So Friday was spent putting together cabinets & trying to get the kitchen ready for the applicances on Saturday. We only brought 5 cabinets to get us started considering we don’t have the sink or the washer/dryer moved. So we will have a small (18″) & big (30″) cabinet on either side of the stove. Plus matching cabinets above with a small one right above the stove for when we get our micro-hood.

Now all we need are the cabinet door & hardware. Oh, & they need to actually be in the kitchen!

Because we will be having a micro-hood we need a plug closer to that cabinet so Gregg started putting one in late that night.

Shopping & Moving things

On Thursday I needed to exchange a Christmas present @ Ikea so while we were there we looked again at their kitchen cabinets since on Saturday we should have our new applicances. I was really liking a dark wood traditional style but we had also liked the less traditional medium brown style.

I wonder what we will pick? Especially with that new wood floor in the dining room & living room.

So to throw things around we moved our dining room arrangement around. So hopefully at the holidays we will have a better place to put food to help serve people.
